Univille’s Graduate Design Program Projects Featured at International Colloquium

Three projects from Univille’s Graduate Program in Design were presented at the 2025 International Design Colloquium, alongside initiatives from the University of São Paulo (USP) and the University of Brasília (UnB).
Held on October 22 and 23 in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, the event focused on the theme “Design and Social Intelligence,” emphasizing relationships and people.
In one of the thematic panels, Prof. Dr. Marli Teresinha Everling presented initiatives that reflect the PPG Design’s commitment to social transformation through Design:
Maker Space for Education in Design and Sustainability: funded by FAPESC, the project uses active methodologies and hands-on practices to train teachers and Basic Education students, promoting the recycling of polymer waste and the circular economy.
Sustainability for Life Observatory: affiliated with CNPq, the observatory conducts research that brings together different fields of knowledge in the pursuit of sustainable solutions to contemporary challenges.
LabDeCidS – Design, City and Sustainability Laboratory: a research space that positions Design as an agent of transformation, catalyzing social change in the development of healthier and more sustainable cities. The initiative is also supported by FAPESC.
Organized by the State University of Minas Gerais (UEMG), the colloquium brought together more than 200 researchers from different regions of Brazil and Latin America to discuss the role of Design in improving quality of life through education, inclusion, and social transformation.
“Who Transforms Whom?”
This was one of the questions raised by Professor Marli, who emphasized that social transformation is a two-way process between the university and the community, driven by citizenship, professional development, networking, and interdisciplinarity.
According to her, the connection with researchers from institutions such as USP, UnB, and UEMG strengthens the exchange of knowledge and expands opportunities for collaboration on future projects.
“Furthermore, it reinforces our commitment to applied research and to developing solutions that positively impact society, consolidating Design as a strategic tool for building a more sustainable and inclusive future,” she added.
