International Researcher Highlights the Relationship Between Genes and Health in Lecture at Univille

On Monday (29), Univille welcomed Prof. Dr. Hieab Adams from the Radboud University Medical Center. During his visit to the Joinville Campus, the professor toured the Integrated Center for Molecular and Microbiological Analyses in One Health, a facility dedicated to research on diseases caused by microorganisms.

He also delivered a lecture to students from Univille’s Graduate Program in Health and Environment (PPGSMA) and the Master’s Program in Sustainable Process Engineering and Management (PPGEGPS).

A specialist in clinical epidemiology and the genetics of neurological diseases, the professor has authored more than 100 high-impact publications, focusing on new statistical protocols in the fields of genomics and neuroimaging. During the lecture, he shared some of his findings and the perspectives guiding his research with the audience.

“Our genes and genetic sequences are among the most important factors in determining our health and whether we may eventually develop a particular disease. Each of us has a very unique genetic sequence that reflects our individual predisposition,” he explained.

During his visit, Adams was welcomed by Univille Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Therezinha Maria Novais, Vice-Rector for Research, Graduate Studies and Innovation Prof. Dr. Paulo Henrique Condeixa de França, International Affairs Advisor Dr. Juliana Bustamante, and Dr. Leslie Ecker Ferreira, Professor of Genetics in the university’s Health Sciences programs.
