From a T-Shirt Worn by Bad Bunny to Pelé’s Collection: Meet Eduardo Schwarz, a Univille Graduate Who Has Achieved International Recognition

The outfit chosen by Puerto Rican artist Bad Bunny caught the public’s attention during his visit to Brazil last month. The T-shirt worn by the Grammy Award winner and 2026 Super Bowl star, inspired by the iconic yellow jerseys worn by the Brazilian national team during the 1958, 1962, and 1970 FIFA World Cups, bears the signature of designer Eduardo Schwarz, a Univille graduate.

Football and sports design have always been closely connected to the designer, largely due to his family background. “I have always loved sports, ever since I was a child, largely because of my father,” he says. “He always attended games and played himself, so it has been in my DNA from the very beginning. Becoming a sports designer happened naturally, combining the knowledge I had in the field with the passion I have always had for sports,” he explained.

His entry into the sportswear market happened casually and without much initial ambition, through the creation of T-shirts he would like to see in the sports world. One of the designs—a shirt inspired by São Paulo Futebol Clube—ended up going viral online.

Following the success of the post, it did not take long for the designer to attract the attention of brands such as Retrôgol, known for selling a wide variety of retro football shirts, as well as sports brands such as Volt Sport, which sponsor sports clubs in Joinville, Criciúma, and Florianópolis.

The partnership with Athleta Brasil, responsible for producing the Brazilian national team’s uniforms, emerged in 2022 as a result of this work. Two years later, a project initially developed by the designer as a tribute to Pelé, the “King of Football,” would eventually be worn by Bad Bunny.

“It was supposed to be a collection inspired by him. It was designed, delivered, and they liked it. However, due to Pelé’s health condition and subsequent passing, it was not released. There were three versions featuring an image of the player on the crest,” he explained.

At least until recently, that is, as Athleta announced a retro collection celebrating the football legend’s career.

Academic Background

Graduating in 2001, the professional attributes much of his success to his degree, particularly to the conceptual approach developed during his studies—a mindset that continues to guide his work to this day.

“Above all, that initial foundation helped me get to where I am today. Design is a dynamic field, and it always has been. There is a strong emphasis on aesthetics and on developing sensitivity to the balance between aesthetics, comfort, and performance. These principles continue to serve as a foundation for my work today,” he explained.
